Hot Docs is Here!

For me, work on this year's Hot Docs festival began almost a year ago -- the first ad for RealScreen announcing the 2006 festival was due the day after the staff wrap party. It's a very satisfying project: it's quiet for several months, then things build slowly in the fall with Doc Soup, then the pace picks up in the new year and for the final two months it's madness as we juggle deadline after deadline ...

Finally, it all comes together! Tonight is Opening Night and from here on it's parties and screenings (and more work, but that's the life, eh?).

ADDITIONAL SCREENINGS

As timely as today's headlines, two more docs have been added to the schedule: Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman will close the fest on May 8 (good to bone up on your Superman lore before catching Superman Returns) and Secrets of the Code, described as "a spiritual road-trip that explores the phenomenon of author Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code". There might be a hollywood blockbuster associated with that one, too ... in case you're suspecting cheese, Secrets of the Code was directed by Jonathan Stack who directed one of the most fascinating war docs I've ever seen, Liberia: An Uncivil War.
